The News is Out!

We're seeking to adopt!

Rich and I have been looking into adopting for several years.
This fall we both felt like the time was right. We're all very excited about it.

Our profile should be online with LDS adoption services the beginning of January.

Answers to common questions:

Ages
We're open to adopting between the ages of 0 to 11 years. Miriam would like to remain the oldest. Nathan would still like to be the oldest boy.

Confidentiality on behalf of the Child
We may not be able to share personal information about the child or children we're looking to adopt.

Our Personal Information
We would love for everyone to spread the word about us seeking to adopt. Many children are placed through referrals. We only ask that personal identifying information not be shared with the birth family.

Birth parents will need to contact us via our case worker Brenda Brown at (208) 376-0191.

Birth parents also can learn more about us through LDS Family Services on our adoption blog and under the names "Richard and Lucinda" (Rich and Cindy) on the LDS Family Service Adoptive Family Listings. We'll have our case number soon.

How Soon?
Well, that all depends.

If we're placed with a baby through LDS Family Services it could happen as early as January. We have friends who received a call the night before they were to pick up their new infant.

If we're placed with a child or children through Health and Welfare we won't have our required training completed before March. After we've completed our training it will vary upon the individual circumstances.

How long until the Adoption is finalized?
At least six months after placement.

When can the child be blessed or sealed?
After finalization and according to the usual requirements of the church.

What about adoption costs?
Our intial costs so far have been around $1,100.

If we are placed with an infant we will have to pay the standard fee of 10% of our annual income at the time of placement. If we get twins we'll have to pay twice that amount.

If we are placed with a special needs child (a child older than three, a child with severe medical needs, or a sibling group) we should be able to negotiate the fees to minimal or none at all.

Our final fees will occur upon finalization. I'm just guessing $500.
