Some of you may be wondering how Foyer de Sion is fairing in Haiti. Here's a little update on the director's family and the orphanages.
Kidnapping
Been about five weeks. Still no news on the Guesno's son (guardianship), his name is Gardy.
Earthquake
All the children appear to be okay. The children have been relocated from two of the three locations. The Fontamara location is intact.
The director's wife, Marjorie, has broken her leg. Guesno's mother, his sister, Kenia, and Majorie's brother, Rony, are missing and presumed dead.
There is a movement stateside to try to expedite the visa's for the adopted children.
Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
***It is true that often money is the best way to help. It is vital to give to an honest and viable group to be sure that the funding will not be transferred to the wrong hands. If you can find a group that will be able to get food and medical supplies directly to the people that would also be good.
About Port Au Prince
It is a heavily populated area. Many people regularly live in destitute situations with no running water or electricity, adequate housing, and very little food. Political and social unrest, corruption, drought, decimated soil, and tropical storms have kept the majority of these people in extreme poverty.
I'm hoping all the Haitian people will be able to take hold of their motto; "In unity there is Strength". Haiti has the potential to be a good and wonderful country. I can see greatness in their people. It saddens me to see their progress stifled by greed and dishonesty.
